Whistler real estate transaction report for Aug 9

Although today greets us with some overcast skies, the past week in Whistler has been great as summer finally graces us with its presence here in the Pacific Northwest.  The village is busy, the lakes and beaches well attended and everyone has a smile on their face.

This past week Whistler saw 24 new listings, 10 Sales and 24 Price reductions.  This compares to last week which saw 32 new listings, 9 sales and 35 price reductions.  Good news in the mortgage arena for those looking to borrow, as rates continue to go down.  My feeling is we will see more inventory come to market from US vendors as they are able to sell and capitalize on the strengthened Canadian dollar.  A recent survey out of Alberta shows a renewed interested from Albertan’s looking to buy recreational property in BC and we have definitely seen interest here and on Vancouver Island.

I had the opportunity to view a new listing in Nordic this morning.  2122 Castle Drive is a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home at the end of a private cul-de-sac.  The home is 1767sf and sits on a 9330sf lot which allows for another 1500sf buildable.

Another good opportunity is available to own a 1 bedroom suite in the Westin.  This unit is 460sf but is located on the 8th floor with village views.  Originally listed for $219k, it has now been reduced to $199k after 189 days on market.
